BISi Bonds is a Barcelona-based chemistry research team, initiated in 2018, through a collaboration between the Shafir laboratory at the Institute of Advanced Chemistry (IQAC-CSIC) and the Cuenca group at the Institut Químic de Sarrià (IQS-URL). Our research combines main group chemistry, metal catalysis, with lessons (and surprises) from mechanistic -experimental + DFT - and spectroscopic studies. Most recently we have contributed new reactions and structures involving hypervalent organo-halogen compounds. We also study the potential of boron-containing molecule in molecular design.

We are happy to welcome Katrin Golob to the group. Katrin is a master student at the University of Vienna, and will be doing her Master Thesis in our lab. Her project involves the design of new reactivity patterns for iodane-guided C-H coupling.

Yet another example of the synthetic potential of the "iodane-guided" C-H coupling concept. In this collaboration with the M. Solà laboratory (UdG) we leverage the iodonio-Claisen mechanism to make a wide range of ortho-allylated iodoarenes.

A new member of the azaborine (BN-benzene) building block family has been discovered through a collaborative effort between our team - Raimon Puig de la Bellacasa and Ana B. Cuenca - and the Shih-Yuan Liu group at Boston College.

Our paper on the synthesis and reactivity profile of the benzylic gem-hetero-dimetalloid compounds has been accepted, and is now on-line.
